Personalisation for a Successful Procedure

The time before surgery is just as important as the procedure itself. At our clinic, we take a proactive approach to pre-operative preparation — helping you enter surgery in the best possible condition and fully informed about what to expect.

By optimising your physical health and preparing your home for recovery, we lay the foundation for a safer operation and a smoother post-op experience.

Pre-Surgery Assessments

Health Assessments Before Surgery

For major orthopaedic procedures such as hip replacements or ligament reconstructions, pre-operative testing is essential to assess your readiness and reduce surgical risk. This typically includes:

  • Heart function assessment (e.g. ECG, if required)
  • Routine blood screening
  • Medication review and health history check

These tests ensure your body is ready to undergo anaesthesia and heal effectively. If any concerns are identified, they will be addressed before your procedure date.

You’ll also attend a pre-operative appointment with one of our in-house physiotherapists or clinical nurses. During this session, we will:

  • Walk you through the surgical procedure
  • Explain what to expect during hospital stay and early recovery
  • Identify personal or medical factors that may affect your rehab
  • Recommend exercises to begin before surgery (“prehabilitation”)
  • Help you mentally and physically prepare for the first weeks post-op

We’ll also help you prepare your living space to make recovery easier and safer, especially after hip or knee surgery. This might include:

  • Setting up a sleeping or resting space close to the bathroom
  • Removing tripping hazards like rugs or cords
  • Adjusting chair or bed height
  • Organising help with meals or transport in the first few days

By planning ahead, you’ll reduce your risk of complications and be able to focus on healing.
